What is a BMU for facades and what is it used for?

Building maintenance units, also called BMU, are façade access equipment for cleaning, conservation, and repair. At GPBMU, we offer different technology types according to the needs of each of our clients. These are:

Next, we will focus on façade BMUs, the flagship product of our company. We have been designing and manufacturing BMUs since our foundation, ensuring quality and safety in each one. We want to tell you about their definition, utility, and the standard models we produce at GPBMU.

The façade maintenance and cleaning BMU is a suspended platform, held by a structure that allows the BMU to make different movements, so that it covers the entire surface of the façade. It is used both for façade maintenance and cleaning.

At GPBMU, we design custom BMUs according to the needs of each client, and we also have four standard models, which we explain below.

The model GPN is characterized by its great versatility. So much so, that it can be used in projects of various heights, and also on simple roofs where the machine moves freely alongside the building's parapet (that safety element on the roofs). Its versatility means a limited reach of the BMU, so we assign the use of the GPN to buildings with straight or negative façades, adding a pantograph. The reach of this model is up to approximately 4 or 5 meters.

The model GPI is used in buildings of all height ranges, whether with straight or negative façades (adding a pantograph). It has a "monocoque" that facilitates a long reach, making this feature along with its height the ideal solution for roofs where obstacles hinder the movement of the BMU alongside the parapet. These obstacles on the roofs may include elevators, ventilation systems, antennas, etc. Its adaptation on roofs with obstacles means that the final installation is always customized to meet the requirements of each building.

The model GPIT is characterized as the BMU with the greatest reach offered by GPBMU, possible thanks to its telescopic arm. It is the perfect solution in buildings where a single machine must ensure access to the different ledges of the façade, and also on roofs where obstacles hinder the machine's movement alongside the parapet. This model operates easily on roofs with multiple obstacles, and a pantograph can also be mounted to provide access to recessed façades.

The model GCM is a compact and efficient solution. It is a cart that uses small motorized baskets, so its use is limited to buildings up to 120 meters, with simple façades and clear roofs. Its main advantage is that there is the possibility to use the same motorized basket for different façade maintenance systems; that is, the motorized basket can be used with other machines besides the BMU.
